Our guest this year was Professor Axel Weber, President
of the Deutsche Bundesbank, who in a fascinating presentation and
subsequent discussion emphasised the importance of euro area members
taking ownership of and carrying out structural reform at a national
level, in order to realise the benefits of a stability-oriented single
currency.
Bronwyn Curtis, on behalf of the Society, thanked both Standard Life
Investments for generously sponsoring the dinner for an eighth year, and
KPMG for its continuing sponsorship of the Rybczynski Prize.
Dave Ramsden, our new Vice President, presented this year's Rybczynski
Prize for the best piece of business economics writing in 2010.
Our congratulations go to George Buckley from Deutsche
Bank, whose prize-winning essay, 'Spare a thought for spare capacity',
will be published in the next edition of The Business Economist. |
