| SBE Annual General Meeting 2011 |
| The Society held its Annual General Meeting on 24 November. Bronwyn
Curtis, SBE Chairman, reflected on a challenging year for both the
Society and its members, and one in which the ups and downs of
economies, markets and industries had been analysed and tracked by a
variety of distinguished speakers at the Society's meetings and
Masterclasses. |
| Bronwyn thanked the Society's sponsors for their generosity in
facilitating another varied calendar of events. Particular thanks were
owed to Standard life Investments for sponsoring the Annual Dinner; to
KPMG, for supporting the Rybczynski Prize; and to the Corporation of
London for hosting the Society's Masterclasses. |
| The economic slowdown has continued to have an impact on both
advertising and membership. The Chairman noted that the Council was
currently reviewing the Society's activities and organisation in order
further to enhance the benefits of membership, and encouraged members to
continue to promote the Society to colleagues with a professional
interest in business economics. |
| Rebecca Driver, Ian Harwood and Andrew Milligan were re-elected to
the SBE Council, their previous terms of office having expired. Ian
McCafferty stood down from the Council, having made a major contribution
the Society during more than decade as a Council member. James Lambert
was elected to the Council in his place. |
| Stephen King and Alison Cottrell were made new Fellows of the
Society. Both were elected during the year by the Council in recognition
of their contribution to business economics and their longstanding
support for the Society. |
