Evening Meeting
Wednesday 11 January 2012, 6.00pm
Joe Grice, Chief Economist, Office for National Statistics
Recent economic indicators - puzzles and dilemmas |
| With degrees from Oxford and Chicago, Joe Grice was Chief Economist and
Director of Public Services at HM Treasury. Since 2008, he has been
Chief Economist and Executive Director at ONS, responsible for economic,
labour market and social analysis. |
| The new National Accounts, published in the 2011 Blue Book, contain a
number of methodological improvements. These include the updating of the
Standard Industrial Classification to SIC2007, as well as moving from an
RPI based system of deflation to one based on the conceptually better
CPI. Together with the impact of new information about the recent past,
these changes make a significant difference to the interpretation of UK
economic developments. Joe's talk will explain what these changes mean
for business economists. |
